The Winter Challenge proved to be a very good tournament for the lower rated players and I would like to thank everyone for their support in making this a great success.
My thanks to Alison and Gary Pollard who gave such a lot of support and worked so hard behind the scenes before the weekend especially Allison who got her crochet needle out weeks before the tourney to make a beautiful throw over rug for the raffle prize, then helped with the certificates-name tags and putting the prize money into envelopes early Sunday morning. Alison also did the word checking but there was always a buzz around her after play, she acted as confident, a shoulder to cry on and many other things, and of course Gary was a wonderful TD.
Thanks must also go to Richard Birch who did the Flyer, Ann Fiddler who took care of the catering and all the Committee Members who voted for this Tournament to finally take place.
But most of all I have to thank all the 64 players who gave their support and turned up to take part in this new venture. It just showed that the lower rated players do want a tournament of their own and that they are willing to play for two days.
I know that it was very enjoyable and everyone felt the excitement heading into the last few games.
This tournament was such a success that it should now be put into the tournament calendar as an annual event.
